Letter to the Editor:
Betty Kimbrew, Director of Geauga Habitat for Humanity presented at the Thursday, September 12, 2013 Commissioners meeting and she did a great job to promote the organization. The room was filled with absolutely wonderful Habitat volunteers and workers who were gracious to those of us who voiced deep concerns about their funding sources.
However, Kimbrew responded to questions about funding, with nebulous answers. She was asked how much Housing and Urban Development money was used to support the program and she stated, “Well, hardly any…this year.” The truth is, Kimbrew has resolutely refused to respond to a public information request to identify funding sources. And why?
When I contacted Commissioner Mary Samide and Tracey Jemison to inquire about how Habitat homes were funded, they could not tell me either, because they did not know. They’re response was, “The identity of Habitat’s outside public funding sources, if any, was unknown at the time of the application except for the last two projects listed below.” Samide and Jemison blindly voted to support Habitat projects, using our tax dollars and without the knowledge of other funding sources.
Kimbrew stated that Habitat recipients are families who have lived in Geauga County for generations. When in fact, many come from other counties, establish residency at the Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority and then move into a Habitat home. Case in point, the most recent home in Chardon. Geauga County is struggling with it’s own issues, even Kimbrew repeatedly cited all of the foreclosures, etc. So why would we bring in struggling families from other counties, when we are unable to help our own residents?
And I appreciate Kimbrew’s enthusiasm for her “partners” as she refers to Habitat recipients, but she failed to disclose that recently, the Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority had to file eviction and damages charges against a Habitat homeowner and her adult child.
Residents have every right to support Geauga Habitat for Humanity and the volunteers and workers at the meeting certainly showed the greatest love and passion for their mission. But as taxpayers, we too have the right to ask that our tax dollars not be used to support subsidized housing, especially a program that tells us their funding…, is none of our business.

I think informed people of Geauga know that Commissioners Tracy Jemison and Mary Samide are wastefull with our money and use alot of it to enhance different department heads who are their "Buddies" and Socialist organizations and projects. These two boneheads have done more to advance Socialism in Geauga than most people know. They are ruining this County.
Jemison and Samide have NO problem using other peoples money (your money) to advance Socialism in Geauga County. I wonder how much of their OWN money they donate yearly to Geauga Habitat..... oooops, forgot..... they don't have to, they have plenty of ours to give away!
Betty Kimbrew, Director of Geauga Habitat for Humanity, did not do "a great job" to promote this organization.... SHE DID A DECEPTIVE JOB.
One of her volunteers stood up and asked us not to confuse Geauga Habitat with Government Subsidised Housing but in reality this is no different.... it is just in a sneakier way through the back door, then dressed up to make it more marketable, especially in conservative Geauga to try and make it more accepting.
There is an old saying:
You can dress up a pig and put lipstick on it, but it's still a pig.
The people who get these Geauga Habitat homes are not charged ANYYYY interest on these loans. Guess whose payin for that! Do you know what YOUR monthly house payment would be if there was no interest on it. It would be cut in half or less. If this isn't Socialism then I don't know what is. This is equivalent to Obama spreading the wealth bullshit..... social economic equality. Don't you know that when you work hard, make alot of money and save up..... YOU SHOULD FEEL GUILTY!
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THESE PEOPLE DID TO DESERVE A NO INTEREST LOAN AND WE DON'T!!
We all have the same opportunities in this country to work or start a small business and try to make our lives better. Some are more successfull at doing that than others. Some are leaders, others are not. Some are better at business, others are not. Some are hard workers, others are not. Life is not equall or fair, you make out of it what you can with the abilities and courage you possess..... SIMPLE AS THAT!
No one "DESERVES" what another has worked hard for!
If someone feels like giving a personal donation to an organization like Geauga Habitat, they are free to give to whom they choose, but peoples tax money should not be used!
