Geauga County Commissioner,
Mary Samide, loses control
at Geauga County Fair
You probably missed the biggest show at the Geauga County Fair on Sunday afternoon when Commissioner Mary Samide lost control and verbally assaulted me when she discovered that her name was on the Geauga Constitutional Council’s flyer and website naming the “Top Most Unwanted” politicians.
Mary Samide was screaming and shouting: “All of my debts are paid, I am debt free! I am debt free!” She then came within three inches of my face, so close I could see the caps on her teeth as she raged… “Are you debt free? Do you have debt? Do you have debt????” She was bobbing and weaving like a prize fighter.
Over the past two years, I have contacted Commissioner Samide for help with community issues. Each and every time her response was: “Well, that is not within my purview.” My neighbor had an issue of concern and we also contacted Commissioner Samide, to which she responded: “Well, I really don’t have any authority to help with that issue…”
While Commissioner Samide whines to no end about how tight our Geauga County budget is, when I asked about the 10% salary increases awarded to the employees of the Geauga Park District, she replied: “Well, I really can’t do anything about that…” On this most important budget issue, she will not even take a personal stand and tell the Park District that they are out of line. Other Geauga County employees who actually deserve raises will go without this year.
When asked about Senate Bill 110, (the septic bill), her response was: “Well, I am opposed to S.B. 110”, then made some nebulous comment about how there was not much more she could do about that issue.
Commissioner Samide's response to being on the Geauga Constitutional Council’s “Top Most Unwanted” list, was less than civil. Such behavior for a public official is totally unacceptable.
Based on my personal experiences with her, I feel she is far too ineffective to be given even this recognition.

One thing you forgot to mention in your letter is that someone called Sheriff Deputies to the GCC booth where this took place. It must have been someone from another booth or from the crowd.
By the scene that Mary created, someone must have thought it was serious enough to call the Deputies. When they arrived, both women were already gone.
The next day when Judy came to work at the fair, a man in the front office asked her if she had a problem at the booth the day before....Judy then told him what had happened....he suggested calling a Deputy to make a report. The Deputy came, listened to the story but filed no complaint because no physical contact was made between the two women.
This behavior of a public official, who can't take truthful criticism, is juvenile and unacceptable.
All elected officials know they are always subject to scrutiny, AND SHOULD BE ! Anyone who can't handle this should GET OUT !
