LUCCI ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR COURT OF APPEALS

Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene A. Lucci announces that he will run for the 11th District Court of Appeals seat now held by Judge Colleen O’Toole. They will face off in the Republican primary election on May 4, 2010.
Lucci, 55, of Concord Township in Lake County, has been a Lake County Common Pleas judge for ten years, is the most senior judge on that bench, is the current administrative judge, and served last year as presiding judge.
Prior to his election to the common pleas bench in 2000, Lucci was a practicing trial attorney for 20 years, during which he served as an acting (occasional) judge on the Painesville and Mentor municipal courts for 12 years. Lucci also served as a full-time Painesville city police officer for six years and a special detective for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for five years.
Admitted to the bar in 1980 after graduating from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Lucci served as president of the Lake County Bar Association in 1989.
Lucci is a 1972 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Case Western Reserve University in December 1975. He earned a certificate in judicial development in trial skills from the National Judicial College, is a candidate for a master of judicial studies degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, and is an inaugural fellow certified as a judge by the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource board, funded by the state of Ohio and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Judge Lucci chairs the Public Confidence in the Judiciary committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference, and served for five years on the editorial board that writes and publishes pattern jury instructions on the law for all of the trial judges in the state.
If elected, Lucci will become the only judge on the court of appeals who has actually presided over a jury trial or sentenced a criminal offender. None of the five judges of the court of appeals ever served as a trial judge.
As an intermediate level appellate court, the court of appeals’ primary function is to hear appeals from the common pleas, municipal and county courts. Each case is heard and decided by a three-judge panel.
The state is divided into twelve appellate districts. Each district is served by a court of appeals that sits in each of the counties in that district. The 11th District consists of Lake, Trumbull, Portage, Ashtabula, and Geauga counties. There are 68 appellate judges in the state. In 99% of the cases, the court of appeals is the court of last resort to secure justice under the law.
On his appellate aspirations, Lucci pledges, “I will timely vote on each case and let the parties, the trial judge, other courts, and the public know why I voted the way I did. I will not ‘concur in judgment only’ or ‘dissent’ without writing an opinion. I will cooperate and work with the other judges on the court to produce the finest product the court of appeals can.”

We are very happy to hear that Judge Eugene Lucci is running for the Ohio 11th District Court Of Appeals.
His election to the 11th district will not only be an asset to that court but also to all of the people in that appellate district!
Having a wide range of experience over the years as a police officer, detective, attorney, and judge, Lucci will bring a rare mixture of experience and talent to the appellate court that few can claim, enabling him to make more well rounded and wiser decisions on cases.
BUT....MOST IMPORTANT ABOVE ALL OTHER ATTRIBUTES.... Lucci is a strong believer in our Constitution and well read in it. A man who will protect it.... who won't distort the meaning of that precious document.
I believe that's why alot of sportsmen are behind him....men and women from the various rifle, gun, and bow clubs and associations.
In this time of degenerative politics that is smothering our freedom and changing the very face of America to that which is un-recognizable to us, there is a great need for more candidates like this to fill other elected positions also.
